A Continuation Method Approach to Finding the Closest Saddle Node Bifurcation Point

چکیده
The paper considers the problem of nding saddle node bifur-cation points which are closest (in a local sense) to the power system operating point. This optimization problem leads to a set of equations which describe such critical points. Not all solutions of this set of equations are critical points. The paper therefore explores the nature and characteristics of solutions. A two stage algorithm is proposed for solving the critical point problem. The rst stage is simply to nd a point on the singular surface, i.e., the surface of saddle node bifurcation points, which lies is a speciied direction. The second stage uses a continuation method to move from that initial point to the desired critical point. Singularity of the critical point problem can have a signiicant innuence on the robustness of the continuation method. The paper investigates singularity conditions. The proposed algorithm is tested on an eight bus power system example.

The Closest Stability Margin by Analyzing Full-dimensional Saddle- node Bifurcation Point in Power System
The network equations of electric power system are formed in which the node voltages and branch currents are as state variables by π equivalent circuit simulation of power components. The explicit expressions of power system voltage equilibrium solution curves are obtained by solving the equations above, and then get the characteristic equation of the saddle-node bifurcation point, define the f...

A novel method for exploring the power system saddle node and Hopf bifurcation boundaries in the space of active and reactive powers has been proposed in the paper. This method is of iterative type with an eigenvalue sensitivity approach used to find a first bifurcation point and a parameter continuation technique used to locate the entire saddle node and Hopf bifurca-tion boundaries. It has be...
متن کاملBifurcations of global reinjection orbits near a saddle-node Hopf bifurcation
The saddle-node Hopf bifurcation (SNH) is a generic codimensiontwo bifurcation of equilibria of vector fields in dimension at least three. It has been identified as an organizing centre in numerous vector field models arising in applications. We consider here the case that there is a global reinjection mechanism, because the centre manifold of the zero eigenvalue returns to a neighbourhood of t...
متن کاملLocal and Global bifurcations in Three-Dimensional, Continuous, Piecewise Smooth Maps
In this work, we study the dynamics of a three-dimensional, continuous, piecewise smooth map. Much of the nontrivial dynamics of this map occur when its fixed point or periodic orbit hits the switching manifold resulting in the so-called border collision bifurcation. We study the local and global bifurcation phenomena resulting from such borderline collisions. The conditions for the occurrence ...
متن کاملMathematical Model Improvement for the Nonlinear Characteristics of Transonic Flutter
In order to make better agreement with transonic wind tunnel experimental data, which was obtained in the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA) in 1990’s, we proposed new mathematical model to improve the previous model. The bifurcation diagram was analyzed by a continuation method. The continuation method can continuously follow the solutions of dynamical system, such as a limit cycle osci...
